Michael earned his B.A. and B.S. from SUNY, later completing his M.S in counseling psychology and corresponding counseling certification from an advanced master’s program at West Point. Michael also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership and a doctorate degree. Michael believes that his strong foundation in education shaped his career as it showed him the importance of a multifaceted approach to address longstanding obstacles within the educational field, and he pulls from his experience to combine methodology of psychology and education.

Michael Troeger’s approach combining education and psychology through his work earned the attention of Senator Cook, and he was asked to help coordinate a “single point” program for New York State public school systems, notably the first of its kind in the state. In the role of coordinator, Michael was responsible for managing multiple stakeholders in a multifaceted approach to reduce placement of at risk children. His approach is now used as the blueprint for educational initiatives across the state of New York.

After being inspired by some of the disenfranchised students that he served as a coordinator, Michael made the decision to positively impact exceptional students and ensure a smooth transition from school to college and career activities. Michael joined the team at the Ulster County Transition Coordination Council and the Ulster County School to Work Partnership steering committees with the goal of bringing student advocacy to public school students grades K-12. Michael remained dedicated to helping students with behavioral and mental health challenges, ensuring that the committee retained IEP and 504 compliance within the school district, properly supervised students on probation, and coordinated college and career efforts, earning him accolades and recognition from both Ulster County and the New York State Legislature.
